In order for a learner to self-monitor their progress, they must set their own learning goals, plan ahead, independently motivate themselves to meet their goals, focus their attention on the task at hand, and use learning strategies to facilitate their understanding of material (Zimmerman, 2004)

Perhaps a student could use a reflective journal for this concept to identify strategies used and their interpretation of effectiveness.

In this resource, self-monitoring falls under a self-management strategy. Although this resource focuses on student behaviours I still find it applicable because it can be adapted for SRL behaviours as well.
